Portion of Lake Mead Blvd. to be closed overnight for bridge work

Road closure

Lake Mead Boulevard will be closed for three nights as crews work on a pedestrian bridge over the road.

The road will be closed between Buffalo Drive and Tenaya Way from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Monday nights.

During the closures, crews will be laying flooring and pouring concrete for a pedestrian bridge as part of a trail project.

Eastbound traffic on Lake Mead Boulevard will be detoured during the closure south on Buffalo to Vegas Drive. Westbound traffic will be detoured north on Tenaya Way to Smoke Ranch Road.

The bridge is part of a $4.7 million project to improve trails throughout the city. The project, which began last June and should be complete this summer, is funded through the Southern Nevada Public Lands Management Act.

The project will complete the Lone Mountain Trail from Washington Avenue to Alexander Road with new sections between Vegas Drive and Lake Mead Boulevard and Cheyenne to Altwood Avenue.

The concrete trail will include lighting and fencing. Another bridge is being built across Cheyenne Avenue.

A third pedestrian bridge is being built as part of the project across Las Vegas Boulevard near the Lied Discover Children’s Museum and the Las Vegas Natural History Museum.

The contractor on the project is Martin-Harris Construction. Parsons Engineering is performing construction management.
