Clark County firefighters are investigating the cause of a fire that tore through the basement of a building behind a home on Cheyenne Avenue this afternoon, officials said.

Firefighters responded shortly after 2 p.m. to the fire at 3640 E. Cheyenne Ave. in the northeast valley. No one was in the building and no injuries were reported, county spokesman Dan Kulin said.

Crews from Las Vegas and North Las Vegas contained the blaze to the basement of the building, officials said. They had the fire knocked down by 2:30 p.m.

The cause of the fire hasn't been determined. Officials haven't released a damage estimate.

Metro Police shut down the westbound lanes of Cheyenne near Las Vegas Boulevard and are asking drivers to avoid the area.
