Road work to cause delays at intersection near McCarran

Lane closures

Work on the road leading to the terminals at McCarran International Airport is wrapping up early, but the next road project is going to affect even more motorists who use the airport connector tunnel.

Crews have been repaving parts of the road that leads to the terminals from Paradise Road north of the airport. That project initially was expected to continue until Friday, but will be finished today, airport officials said.

However, instead of traffic delays decreasing, motorists using Paradise Road to bypass the airport will likely see bigger delays Thursday and Friday as crews repair asphalt at the intersection of Paradise and Russell roads.

The project will affect northbound and southbound traffic near the tunnel, officials said.

The intersection will remain open during the work period, but officials recommend that motorists avoid the area from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.

Lanes on both roads, including the turn lanes at the intersection, will be closed at various times during the project and flaggers will be onsite to direct traffic.

All lanes will reopen at 5 p.m. Thursday for evening and overnight travelers, but lanes will close again by 6:30 a.m. Friday.
