An early-morning fire gutted a vacant house in the eastern valley where fire officials believe homeless people might have been staying.

Las Vegas Fire and Rescue crews responded at 1 a.m. to the home at 3901 Gaviota Ave., near Pecos Road and Stewart Avenue, after receiving multiple 911 calls.

Department spokesman Tim Szymanski said firefighters arrived to find the house engulfed in flames. No one was injured.

The fire, which caused about $100,000 in damage, is under investigation, Syzmanski said. No utilities were connected to the house, which officials believe had been vacant for a while.
