Henderson man, 44, faces child pornography charges

Henderson Police arrested a 44-year-old man last week who allegedly had at least 20 child pornography videos on his computer, officials said.

Steve Lyon Lazarus was arrested Tuesday in connection with 20 counts of possession of child pornography and three counts of distribution of child pornography, according to an arrest report. The three distribution-related counts stem from detectives being able to download the videos from a computer at Lazarus' IP address, police said in the report.

Detectives began the investigation in early January after there were indications that numerous child pornography files might be available to share from Lazarus' IP address, according to the arrest report.

Detectives served a search warrant at the man's home in the area of Arroyo Grande Boulevard and Windmill Parkway and found at least 20 videos of child pornography on a computer in the master bedroom, the arrest report indicates.

Lazarus returned home during the execution of the search warrant but refused to answer any questions about the child pornography, police said.

Lazarus was booked into the Henderson Detention Center on $175,000 bail, according to jail records. His first court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday.

Henderson Police spokesman Todd Rasmussen said the department's Cyber Crimes Unit, which uses software through an FBI network to track people possessing and sharing child pornography, has increased the number of arrests since its creation several years ago.

The department also has increased the number of detectives working in the unit during that time, Rasmussen said.
