Boulder City's disgraced ex-constable has been indicted by a Clark County grand jury on eight felony counts including grand larceny and burglary while in possession of a deadly weapon.
Larry Markotay, 43, was arrested last spring in connection with stealing firearms from his girlfriend's home. He is out of custody in lieu of $10,000 bail.
According to an indictment unsealed Wednesday, Markotay faces one count of burglary while in possession of a deadly weapon, three counts of grand larceny, three counts of possession of stolen property and one count of theft for allegedly stealing a laptop.
Markotay was arrested Feb. 22, 2010, on suspicion of drunken driving after he crashed his car into a light pole in Boulder City and left the scene. Police found two guns reported missing by his ex-girlfriend, Cathleen Winterrowd, in the car.
He was arrested again on March 10, 2010, for the burglary charges after police executed a search warrant and confiscated 85 firearms as well as drug paraphernalia from his home and office.
Winterrowd told police at the time that Markotay had given her the guns after appointing her deputy constable, although officials said they found no documentation of the appointment.
According to the indictment, Markotay allegedly broke into Winterrowd's house on Feb. 13 or 14 and stole three guns: a Smith and Wesson .38 caliber handgun, a Kel-Tek 9mm handgun and a Smith and Wesson .357 caliber handgun.
Markotay resigned on April 5 after the arrests. He is scheduled to be arraigned in district court on the charges Jan. 27.
