Metro Police responded to a fatal crash Wednesday evening in which a motorcyclist collided with a truck in the central valley.

The 22-year-old motorcyclist was transported to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The man was riding a Kawasaki north on Valley View Boulevard about 6:15 p.m. while the Ford F-150 was traveling westbound on El Camino Avenue from a stop sign, Metro Sgt. Richard Strader said.

As the truck continued west, the motorcycle fell to its side and struck the rear tow hitch of the Ford, police said. Police had earlier reported witnesses saw the man accelerate on his motorcycle at a high rate of speed prior to the collision.

Strader said alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

The man’s name will be released by the Clark County coroner. The crash is still under investigation. This is the 13th fatal traffic accident for Metro in 2011.
