Man charged with murder in shooting of best friend

A Las Vegas man has been charged for allegedly shooting and killing his best friend of 10 years, according to the Clark County District Attorney's Office.

Michael Jeffries, 30, has been charged with murder with use of a deadly weapon.

Metro Police said they received an emergency call around 12:44 a.m. on Sunday from Jeffries, who allegedly told police he shot his friend, Eric Gore.

According to the arrest report, police responded to a home at 8745 Don Horton Ave., where they allegedly found Jeffries kneeling over Gore and a .45-caliber handgun laying on the kitchen counter.

Officers said they heard Jeffries allegedly say, “I just shot my friend.”

Gore wasn’t showing signs of life, but was transported to University Medical Center Trauma, where he was later pronounced dead by a UMC doctor, police said.

Allegedly, Jeffries told police Gore was angry about an argument with one of the girls who had left the house after a party Saturday night.

The only people still in the house were Jeffries’ girlfriend, her 13-year-old daughter and a 2-year-old, who was sleeping at the time, according to the arrest report.

An argument ensued between the two men, the arrest report said. When Gore refused to leave the house, Jeffries allegedly went to his bedroom to retrieve a gun and shot Gore in the chest, police said.

Jeffries was arrested and booked at the Clark County Detention Center, police said.
