More than 1,000 muscle cars, hot rods and vintage vehicles will be rolling into Henderson this weekend for the city’s 12th annual Super Run Classic Car Show.

The four-day show gets under way Thursday with a preview at The District in Green Valley Ranch.

One of Henderson’s biggest annual events, the show drew more than 150,000 attendees last year and features cars from across the country.

“Basically, it’s an extravaganza of classic cars and music,” said Nicole Johnson, a cultural arts and tourism spokeswoman. “I’ve seen brand new (Ford) Mustangs next to a Mustang from the 1960s, and everything in between. Anything people want to show off is what they bring out.”

After Thursday’s kickoff event, the cars will rumble to downtown Henderson, where they will be on display during the festival for the next three days.

In addition to cars, the festivities will include automotive vendors, food and entertainment for children.

There also will be concerts at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday featuring a medley of classics from The Temptations Review starring Dennis Edwards to fan-favorite country band Against the Grain.

New this year is a 1950s-inspired fashion show at 7 p.m. Saturday hosted by local clothing store Bettie Page.

“The outfits are all inspired by the iconic 1950s pinup,” Johnson said. “You’re going to see leopard prints, pencil skirts, all of that rockabilly flair.”

Car show staples such as burnout competitions and slow drags will also be featured, and cars will be competing for awards and prizes for top vehicle, people’s choice and best in show.

The event will run from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday at The District, noon to 9 p.m. on Friday on Water Street, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.

The event is open to the public and admission is free.

It’s not too late to enter a car in the show. Registration costs $65 dollars and can be paid the day of the event.

Parts of Water Street from Victory Road to Ocean Avenue will be closed, making it more pedestrian friendly, Johnson said.

Free parking will be available in city garages in downtown Henderson, and a shuttle service will run to the event from the nearby Lake Mead Crossing shopping center.
