Running through the playoff brackets

Las Vegas Sun reporters Case Keefer and Ray Brewer discuss the high school basketball playoffs, disagreeing on both brackets. Case likes Canyon Springs to win the Sunrise Regional; Ray think they lose in the first round.

The Green Valley High basketball team nearly squandered a 13-point fourth-quarter lead Wednesday in the Sunrise Regional quarterfinals, but received two clutch free throws from Devan Kohn in hanging on for a 69-66 victory against visiting Las Vegas High.

“I’m real proud of the kids. They hung in there when the game was tight,” Green Valley coach Lorenzo Jarvis said. “We came out and played hard with a lot of energy. I would say we played our game for 95 percent of the game.”

Kohn led Green Valley with 25 points, DePaul commit Durrell McDonald scored 20 points and post player Brandon Hoisington added 10.

Green Valley, the No. 2 seed from the Southeast Division, advances to Thursday’s semifinals against Northeast champion Valley. The game is at 8 p.m. at Foothill.
