Film festival Cinekink offers a mix of sophistication and smut

Sweet Prudence

A scene from Sweet Prudence.

Headed back for its third year in Las Vegas, CineKink has become one of the highlights of the local film-festival calendar, offering up an appealing mix of sophistication and smut. CineKink features movies that deal with sex and sexuality in clever, playful and, yes, sometimes very explicit ways, and selections range from coy, tongue-in-cheek sex comedies to full-on hardcore pornography (although that portion of the festival hasn’t returned since its first year in Vegas).

This year’s schedule includes four features and two shorts programs, all culled from the annual CineKink festival in New York City. The two films that tied for the best narrative feature are Sweet Prudence & The Erotic Adventure of Bigfoot, about the mythical Sasquatch showing up at a nudist resort, and Cabaret Desire, a drama weaving together four sensual tales. They’re joined by the Bolivian drama Living Together and the best documentary feature winner Stage Brother, about an aspiring adult-film star and her brother/manager.

The two shorts programs focus on community in the world of kink and overall highlights from the festival, respectively, and the festival will also host a panel discussion on Saturday about sex in Las Vegas, headed up by the Weekly’s own sex columnist (and UNLV women’s studies professor) Lynn Comella.
