Lanes reopening after truck fire on Interstate 15

Updated Monday, Aug. 12, 2013 | 4:19 p.m.

Clark County firefighters extinguished a tractor-trailer fire on Interstate 15 near Blue Diamond Road this afternoon that caused major traffic delays.

Nobody was injured.

Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Jeremie Elliott said two northbound lanes and access roads were reopened as of 4 p.m. Three lanes remained closed while officials worked to remove the truck.

The rig, which caught fire about 1:15 p.m., was stopped in a merge lane, causing major traffic backups.

A Regional Transportation Commission traffic camera feed showed firefighters had brought the blaze mostly under control by 1:50 p.m.

It was not known what the contents of the truck were or how the fire started.

The RTC issued a freeway traffic alert about 1:20 p.m. Black smoke could be seen for miles.
