Desert Pines coach Tico Rodriguez had a successful debut in his team’s 61-0 victory over Western.

Iquan Corsey tallied five touchdowns, scoring in a variety of ways. He threw three touchdowns on 7-for-11 passing, rushed for another and returned an interception for a score.

Eric Wilkes only needed two carries to amass 115 yards and two touchdowns.

The Jaguars (1-0) were up 26-0 in the first quarter, prompting Rodriguez to play his second- and third-string players.

“We tried our best to play our younger kids to use that opportunity to keep the kids safe,” Rodriguez said. “That was vital getting kids excited to play and getting a chance to play. … This was a good experience for them to get on the field.”

Western (0-1) saw its losing streak stretch to 19 consecutive games.
