51s drop both games of doubleheader at Iowa Cubs

The Las Vegas 51s lost both games of a doubleheader by one run Tuesday at the Iowa Cubs, falling 2-1 and 6-5.

With Monday’s game being postponed because of rain, the teams played a pair of seven-inning games. In the second game, the 51s scored all of their runs in a five-run sixth inning, but surrendered the winning run in the bottom half of the frame in losing.

Zach Lutz had two RBIs in the outburst to give him 25 RBIs for the season. Brian Bixler also knocked in a pair of runs for Las Vegas (20-23), which managed just four hits.

In the first game, Las Vegas had three hits, including Donnie Murphy’s RBI single in the third inning for the lone Las Vegas run.

The 51s return to Cashman Field Thursday to take on the Salt Lake Bees.
