Humbled by the vitriol spawned from last week's podcast, Las Vegas Sun sports reporters Ray Brewer and Case Keefer try their best to make this edition a happy one. They touch on all the teams that are still alive in the hunt for a state championship while specifically looking back at wins last week from Palo Verde and Canyon Springs.

Parker Rost passed for two touchdowns and rushed for another today, leading the Palo Verde High football team to a 42-20 win over visiting Cimarron-Memorial High in the Sunset Regional quarterfinals.

Cimarron scored on its opening drive, using a long kickoff return and short touchdown run from Maurice Bennett for a 6-0 lead.

But Palo Verde scored the next two touchdowns, starting with Rost hooking up with Jake Ortale for a 16-yard touchdown. Later in the half, the Rost-to-Ortale combination struck again, resulting in a 34-yard touchdown to break a 14-all tie and give Palo Verde the lead for good.

Darrion Finn and Calvin Beaulieu had second-half touchdown runs for Palo Verde, increasing the Panthers' seven-point halftime lead to 35-14.

Michael Barnson had a pair of touchdown runs for Cimarron, which finishes 6-4 overall.

“It’s a new week, that’s what the playoffs are all about,” Palo Verde coach Darwin Rost said of the matchup next week against Centennial, which Palo Verde beat 22-13 earlier this season.

“We are going to keep getting after it,” the coach continued. “You have to stay healthy, practice and study. Just because we beat them the first time doesn’t mean it will happen again. They are improved.”
