Wranglers hang on for one-goal victory at Alaska

The Las Vegas Wranglers opened a three-game series Friday at the Alaska Aces with a 4-3 victory.

Las Vegas used goals from Geoff Irwin and Carlo Finucci three minutes apart in the second period to break a 1-1 tie and give the Wranglers a 3-1 advantage heading into the final period.

Alaska scored on the power play with less than two minutes remaining, but Las Vegas held off the late charge to escape with a one-goal win. Wranglers goalie Mitch O’Keefe earned his first win of the season and made 31 saves.

Other Las Vegas goals were scored by Matt Tassone in the first period on the power play for an early 1-0 advantage and by Robert Smith in the final period, which turned out being the winning goal.

The series continues Saturday in Anchorage. The Wranglers are back at the Orleans Arena Dec. 6 to face Bakersfield. The Smithereens will play a post-game concert.
