Homicide detectives are investigating the death of a man whose body was found at Wetlands Park this afternoon shortly after gunshots rang out in the area.

Metro Police Lt. Mark Reddon said a tipster reported the gunshots about 4:15 p.m. at the park in the 7000 block of Wetlands Park Lane in the east Las Vegas Valley. Another person spotted the body about 15 minutes later and called police.

Reddon said the man, who appears to be homeless, does not have any immediately visible gunshot wounds. Police are not sure how old he is.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office has been summoned to conduct a death investigation.

“There was blood around him,” Reddon said, noting that he appeared to have been dead for at least four hours. “But that could just be the body’s natural purging system.”

Illegal shooting is common in the area, and it’s likely the gunshots were not related to the man’s death, Reddon said.

“Just in case it’s a homicide, we’re not going to tamper with the scene,” Reddon said. “We don’t know what we have right now.”
