Updated Tuesday, April 8, 2014 | 12:37 p.m.

Officer-involved shooting

A Metro Police SWAT officer shot and killed a man this morning after he aimed an assault rifle at officers during a standoff, authorities said.

The standoff started about 3:30 a.m. after a caller reported that a roommate was armed with an assault rifle and threatening to commit suicide at their home in the 5700 block of Maceta Avenue, near Twain Avenue, Metro Capt. Matt McCarthy said.

A Crisis Intervention Team officer spoke on the phone with the man for more than an hour, and SWAT officers arrived, McCarthy said.

After SWAT officers were in position, the man came out of the home and aimed the rifle at the officers, he said. A SWAT officer shot and killed the man, McCarthy said.
