Inmates who walked away from Reno work assignment are caught

A pair of inmates who walked away from an assignment along a highway in Reno earlier this week have been caught, prison officials said.

Dustin Cottiero and Corey Gomez were working with the Nevada Division of Forestry along Interstate 80 and McCarran Boulevard when they escaped about 2:10 p.m. Wednesday.

Cottiero was caught Friday and Gomez was found today, according to the Nevada Department of Corrections. The Nevada Highway Patrol and the Reno and Sparks police departments helped in the search.

Cottiero, 23, was sentenced to as many as three years in prison for attempted burglary in a case from Washoe County. He's been behind bars since September.

Gomez, 26, has been in prison since July for burglary and resisting a public officer in Clark County. He is serving a sentence of up to eight years.

Both inmates were assigned to the Stewart Conservation Camp in Carson City.

Prison officials said no other details about their capture was available Saturday.
