Neena Laxalt leaves GOP, files as nonpartisan

CARSON CITY — The daughter of a storied Nevada Republican family has left the GOP, changing her voter registration to nonpartisan.

Neena Laxalt says she was encouraged to switch after news this week that Sue Wagner, a lifelong Republican and first woman elected as Nevada lieutenant governor, also registered as nonpartisan.

Laxalt is the daughter of former Republican Nevada governor and U.S. Sen. Paul Laxalt.

A lobbyist, Neena Laxalt says Nevada traditionally is a crossover state, where voters look at individuals and not just party.

And she says her father could not have won some of his elections without support from voters on the other side of the political aisle.
