Police: 3 year old abducted by her mother Saturday

A 3-year-old girl was abducted by her mother from a family gathering at her father's house Saturday afternoon, North Las Vegas police say.

For the last 18 months, Katies Nevaeh Battle has been living with a foster family after she was removed from her parents' custody by Child Protective Services. On July 4th, the agency allowed Battle's foster mother to take her to her biological father's apartment in the 2100 block of North Las Vegas Boulevard for a scheduled visit. The next day, Battle was reported missing from the apartment. Police believe she was abducted by her biological mother, 35-year-old Shelly Mitchell.

The girl was last seen wearing green leggings and a green and pink shirt with a flower in the middle. Police say Mitchell, who weighs around 155 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes, frequents the area of Henderson near Sunset Road and Green Valley Parkway.

Police are urging anyone with information on the whereabouts of Katies Battle or Shelly Mitchell to call the North Las Vegas Police Department at 633-9111 or Nevada Child Seekers at 702-458-7009.
