51s settle for doubleheader split at Tacoma after blowing ninth-inning lead

The Las Vegas 51s split a doubleheader today against the host Tacoma Rainiers, falling 3-2 in the nightcap after winning the opener, 7-5, in seven innings.

In the second game, the 51s took a 2-1 lead in the top of the ninth inning on Taylor Teagarden’s solo home run. However, Tacoma loaded the bases with no outs in its half of the ninth off 51s reliever Jeff Walters, scoring the tying and winning runs on walks to force in runs. Walters faced five batters, surrendering three hits and two walks to take the loss.

In the first game, Andrew Brown’s two-run home run in the seventh (and final) inning provided the winning runs in a 7-5 Las Vegas victory. The game was postponed Saturday until Sunday, then delayed Sunday to today. And Sunday’s originally scheduled game will be made up July 22.

Brandon Allen and Wilmer Flores also hit home runs for Las Vegas in the win.
