New York cabbie suspended over swastika armband

NEW YORK — A New York City cab driver who wore a swastika armband while on the job has been suspended for 30 days.

The city's Taxi and Limousine Commission suspended Gabriel Diaz's operator's license Friday after a Jewish group and others complained.

Diaz tells the Daily News he believes in the "ideology of National Socialism" and will continue to show off the Nazi symbol when he's not at work. He says: If a Muslim can drive a cab wearing a turban and "a homosexual can walk around with a big rainbow flag" why can't he wear a Nazi armband?

The Anti-Defamation League calls Diaz's armband a "frightening and offensive" message. It commends the city for taking quick action.
