Police: Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run accident

A pedestrian was killed early Nov. 6, 2014, while crossing Sahara Avenue at Eastern Avenue, Metro Police said.

A pedestrian crossing Sahara Avenue was hit and killed this morning by a car that left the scene, Metro Police said.

The accident happened about 4:40 a.m. at Sahara and Eastern avenues. The pedestrian, 57-year-old Marlon Duane Collins of Las Vegas, was crossing the street in the crosswalk when, witnesses reported, the car went through a red light and hit him, police said.

The pedestrian was taken to University Medical Center and pronounced dead, police said. His name was not released, pending notification of family.

The car, a dark-colored 2013 or 2014 Nissan Sentra that was headed east on Sahara, left the scene and has not been located, police said.

The intersection was closed in all directions until about 8:30 a.m.
