A man walking on Interstate 15 near Sahara Avenue was hit and killed by a pickup truck early this morning, law enforcement officials said.

The pedestrian was in one of the travel lanes about 4:20 a.m. when he was struck by a white Toyota Tundra driving north on I-15, according to a Nevada Highway Patrol statement.

He was thrown into an adjacent lane, where he was hit by an unknown number of other vehicles, the statement said.

The truck continued traveling north before driving to the east shoulder, the statement said.

It is unknown why the pedestrian was in the roadway, Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Chelsea Steunkel said.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead on scene by the Clark County Coroner's office, the statement said.

The 46-year-old man driving the truck remained on scene and has not been cited or charged, she said.

The northbound lanes of the interstate from Flamingo Road to Sahara were closed, Steunkel said. The freeway was reopened as of about 10 a.m., officials said.
