Man suffers burns from downtown dumpster fire

A man was transported to University Medical Center after suffering burns this evening in a downtown dumpster fire, officials said.

Crews received reports about 7:30 p.m. of the fire in the 900 block of Las Vegas Boulevard North near Washington Avenue, Las Vegas Fire & Rescue spokesman Tim Szymanski said.

A middle-age man was transported to UMC after suffering second- and third-degree burns to about 10 percent of his body.

The injuries, which included spots on the man's arm, appear to be nonlife-threatening, Szymanski said.

It is unclear whether he was in the dumpster at the time the fire broke out, but the man was near the dumpster when crews arrived, Szymanski said.

No property was damaged as a result of the fire, he said.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
