The rental car of a California woman found dead in the Pahrump desert was located Saturday about three miles east of where her body was discovered, Nye County Sheriff Tony De Meo said.
The metallic blue Hyundai Accent driven by Margay Edwards was spotted by a Metro Police helicopter in a wash about 1:30 p.m., De Meo said.
Police had to use all-terrain vehicles to reach the car, which was in a part of the desert that appeared untouched by any other vehicles in years, De Meo said.
It took the sheriff and two detectives about two hours to travel from where the body was found to the car because of ravines and washes in the area, he said.
The car appeared to have traveled off of Hafen Ranch Road before heading into the desert, De Meo said.
Two ATV riders discovered Edwards’ body Sept. 25 near a dirt track about three miles away.
Authorities said they are investigating the death as a homicide.
Police have so far refused to discuss the cause of death or whether any suspects have been identified.
De Meo declined to comment on what was found in the car.
