Dad, son hurt in fire at Mesquite timeshare resort

MESQUITE — A fire official in says a 47-year-old man was found unconscious and his 8-year-old son was treated for smoke inhalation after a smoky weekend fire in the kitchen of a southern Nevada timeshare unit.

Mesquite Fire Capt. John Gately said Monday the man may have had an underlying medical condition before he collapsed in a bedroom a little before 5 p.m. Saturday at the Oasis Grand Destinations Resort.

Fire sprinklers doused flames in the third-floor unit before firefighters arrived.

The man and boy were taken to Mesa View Regional Hospital before the man was transferred to a hospital in Las Vegas.

Gately says the fire was ruled accidental.

He says investigators traced it to an unattended pot on the stove, and damage was limited to the stove and kitchen cabinets.
