Sandoval forms panel to deal with drought

Gov. Brian Sandoval on Thursday set up the machinery for Western states to join in finding the best ways to deal with the extended drought.

Sandoval said the Western Drought Forum has been created involving eight states. There will be an online library to collect case studies and best practices.

In addition, the group will discuss preparedness and management in the dry conditions.

Sandoval is chairman of the Western Governors Conference and he created the drought forum. He has scheduled sessions Sept. 18-19 in Norman, Okla.; Oct. 7-8 in Tempe, Ariz.; Nov. 13-14 in Sacramento, and Dec. 8-9 in Las Vegas.

The governor made his announcement at Lahontan Reservoir 18 miles west of Fallon, where boat landings have been closed due to the dry conditions.
