Leontre Austin had a kickoff return of about 85 yards today for the Durango High football team, helping them snap an 11-game losing streak with a 33-25 victory at Bonanza.
Austin also rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown.
“(The win) was certainly much-needed for us,” Durango coach Matt Gerber said.
Luis Paulino had two receiving touchdowns for Durango and sophomore Noah Williams also had a scoring reception. Quarterback Jon Schofield had two touchdown passes.
“It was big. We wanted to get a win (last week) in our first game, but that plan backfired on us,” Gerber said. “We still consider Bonanza one of our rivals. To go over there and get a win, that’s big.”
Durango has another winnable game next week against Eldorado.
