Man indicted in slaying of 8-year-old Arizona girl

A man accused of killing 8-year-old Isabella Grogan-Cannella was indicted Thursday by a Mohave County, Ariz., grand jury on charges including first-degree murder and kidnapping a minor under 15.

Justin James Rector, 26, of Bullhead City, Ariz., also was indicted on charges of child abuse and abandoning a dead body.

Police said Rector was a friend of the girl’s family and had a lengthy criminal history. Grogan-Cannella was reported missing from her Bullhead City home early Sept. 2. Her body was found in a shallow grave near her home the next day. Authorities concluded she was strangled to death.

Police are investigating whether the girl was sexually assaulted.

Rector was arrested Sept. 4 and is being held without bond. He will be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 19.
