Teen dies after shooting in Las Vegas intersection

Updated Monday, Sept. 22, 2014 | 2:09 p.m.

A teen was fatally shot in a car at a Las Vegas intersection, and another person was injured in a drive-by shooting in downtown Las Vegas, Metro Police reported.

In both cases, the shots were fired from a vehicle, but there was no information to suggest the incidents were related, Metro Officer Larry Hadfield said.

Officers were called about 7:30 p.m. Sunday to the 5200 block of Stampa Avenue, where a male teen was found in a driveway with gunshot wounds, police said.

Police said they believe the teen was shot in a vehicle at the intersection of Sahara Avenue and Decatur Boulevard. He was in the vehicle with four other people when a dark-colored vehicle pulled up at a red light, police said.

The occupants of the vehicles talked and someone in the suspect vehicle shot into the victim’s vehicle with a handgun, police said.

The suspect vehicle left the scene. The other vehicle drove to Stampa Avenue, where the teen was found, to call police.

The teen was taken to University Medical Center and later died.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Metro Police homicide section at 702-828-3521 or by email at [email protected]. Those wishing to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555 or visit crimestoppersofnv.com.

In the other case, shots fired from a vehicle driving down the street hit an individual in the 2200 block of Ryan Avenue, near the intersection of East Bonanza Road and North Eastern Avenue, Hadfield said.

The person sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the shooting, which was reported about 7:30 p.m., he said.

The shooting is under investigation, Hadfield said.
