Coroner IDs Las Vegas teen killed in drive-by shooting

A local teen killed Sept. 21 in a drive-by shooting in the Spring Valley area has been identified Jose Hernandez Pena, the Clark County Coroner’s Office reported.

Pena, 17, was in a vehicle with four other people when a dark-colored vehicle pulled up and engaged in conversation with the occupants. Someone in the other vehicle pulled out a handgun and shot into Pena's vehicle, according to Metro Police.

The suspect vehicle drove off, and Pena was driven to a house on the 5200 block of Stampa Avenue, near Decatur Boulevard and Desert Inn Road. Officers received the call around 7:30 p.m. and arrived to find Pena lying in the driveway with apparent gunshot wounds.

He was taken to University Medical Center, where he later died.
