Competency hearing set for man accused of deadly crowbar attack

A 29-year-old man accused of bashing a Las Vegas man to death with a crowbar will face a court hearing about whether he's psychologically fit for trial on murder, kidnapping, conspiracy and other charges.

Jaime Zuniga's defense attorney, Oliver Melgar, declined comment Thursday ahead of an April 24 hearing before a Nevada state court judge who decides competency cases.

Zuniga was arrested March 26 and appeared Wednesday before a Las Vegas judge on felony charges also including attempted murder, robbery, burglary and battery in the March 23 death of 47-year-old Edward Michael Turner.

Turner's sister, who uses a wheelchair was hospitalized. Police say she was also attacked.

A co-defendant, 33-year-old Jennifer Mustachia, was arrested March 24 and faces similar charges. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled May 8.
