Mother of toddler pleads not guilty after corpse found

NORTH LAS VEGAS — The mother of a toddler whose corpse was found hidden claims she was controlled by the father.

The attorney for 38-year-old Kellie Phillips said she pleaded not guilty Thursday.

After withdrawing from the case, the attorney also said the doting mother didn't know her children were harmed and had tried to leave her abusive partner, 39-year-old Jondrew Lachaux.

They're accused of child abuse.

Lachaux is also charged with concealing evidence after their 3-year-old toddler's corpse was found in North Las Vegas.

The body was found in the backseat of a Mercedes after Phillips' daughter was arrested with a very sick baby, fathered by Lachaux.

The teen, also arrested, said her family left her with the ailing toddler and that Lachaux helped hide the body.

Lachaux's attorney couldn't immediately be reached.
