Woman shot, killed after women ask to use her phone to call for help

Updated Saturday, April 18, 2015 | 2:30 p.m.

One woman is dead after a Friday night shooting in the west part of the valley, Metro Police said.

About 10 p.m., the woman, whom the Clark County Coroner's Office has identified as 24-year-old Cassandra Lee Cassidy of Las Vegas, had just pulled up to a house in the 1300 block of Westwind Road, near Charleston Boulevard and Lindell Road, when two women approached her car and asked to use her phone to call for help, Lt. Jeff Goodwin said.

The women were afraid of two men in a car down the street, Goodwin said.

A white, two door car with several occupants drove up to Cassidy's car and fired several rounds, striking Cassidy but not the two women, before it sped off, Goodwin said.

The two women alerted nearby residents to call the police, Goodwin said.

Cassidy was taken to UMC, where she died, police said.

No suspects have been identified, police said.

Detectives do not believe Cassidy was the intended target.

Her death is the 28th homicide investigated by Metro this year.
