Police: Suspect shot, killed during attempted robbery

A man was fatally shot Wednesday as he and two other suspects attempted a robbery near McCarran International Airport, according to Metro Police.

Police were called about 9:30 p.m. to the 5000 block of Spencer Street, near Tropicana Avenue, where the man was found with gunshot wounds, police said.

The man was apparently with two other suspects who approached a vehicle as a male and female were exiting, police said.

When the suspects pulled a gun on the female and demanded her purse, the male driver of the vehicle got out with a handgun and fired multiple shots, police said.

The injured suspect was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The two other male suspects left the scene on foot and have not been captured by police.

Information on the case will be submitted for review by the Clark County District Attorney's Office, but the male who fired the shots was not arrested, police said.

The identity of the suspect will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.
