Man killed Friday by Metro identified

The man killed Friday by Metro Police officers has been identified as 24-year-old Abel Correa, according to the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

Correa, of Las Vegas, died of multiple gunshot wounds, officials said. His death was ruled a homicide.

The shooting happened Friday morning in the 6900 block of Berkshire Place, a residential neighborhood near Rainbow Boulevard and Tropicana Avenue. Police were called to the area after a homeowner reported that a neighbor broke his window.

Officers were allowed inside the residence where they believed the suspect lived, police said. During the investigation, they opened a closet door and the suspect lunged at them with a sharp object, police said.

Both officers, who have not been identified, fired at the man, police said. Correa was taken to University Medical Center, where he later died.

Police said they had interacted with the suspect in the past but did not elaborate.

The incident was the seventh officer-involved shooting in Las Vegas this year.
