SAN FRANCISCO — A San Francisco man has pleaded guilty to attempting to sell two endangered black rhinoceros horns to an undercover agent he thought was a Colorado collector.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Lumsden Quan pleaded guilty in federal court in Las Vegas on Friday to violating wildlife-protection laws. He is to be sentenced Dec. 3.
The 47-year-old Quan and Edward Levine of Mill Valley were arrested in Las Vegas in March 2014 after authorities said they tried to sell the horns for $55,000.
Levine is scheduled to stand trial Oct. 19.
The endangered black rhinoceros is native to eastern and central Africa. It is a popular target of poachers who sell its horns as ornaments or to be used in potions believed to have medicinal value.
