Pedestrian struck, killed near Fremont, Eastern

A 77-year-old Las Vegas man died after being hit by an SUV early Wednesday morning on Fremont Street near Eastern Avenue, according to Metro Police.

Police were called about 5:45 a.m. to Fremont east of Eastern, according to a Metro news release.

A westbound 1999 Isuzu Amigo was on Fremont facing a green light at Eastern when it hit the man, who was headed south across the westbound lanes and was not in a marked crosswalk, police said.

The pedestrian fell to the ground and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. His name and official cause of death will be released by the Clark County Coroner's Office.

The 54-year-old Las Vegas man driving the SUV stopped immediately and stayed at the scene, police said.

This is the 110th traffic-related death this year investigated by Metro Police. An investigation by Metro's Accident Investigation Section is ongoing.
