Man accused of posing as air marshal held

A New York man who police say posed as a federal agent after being pulled over with an assault weapon and body armor in his car has been ordered held on $300,000 bail.

Court records say Mark Vicars represented himself in court on Friday to face weapons charges. He could not be reached for comment Saturday.

Nassau County police stopped the 49-year-old suspect based on a tip Thursday morning in Syosset (sy-AH'-seht).

Police say he had a pistol, a knife and the assault weapon in the car, along with the body armor and 500 rounds of ammunition. Investigators say he produced a fake shield and credential while claiming to be an air marshal.

Authorities say they found five more handguns and 8,300 rounds of ammunition at his home.
