Nevada Democrats fear consequences of Supreme Court case

Nevada Democrats are sounding the alarm about U.S. Supreme Court case they say could make voting districts more favorable to Republicans and weaken the power of youthful and minority communities that lean Democratic.

Two voters in Texas are set to ask the court Tuesday to order a drastic change in the way states divide their electoral districts. The challengers say the Constitution requires states to count only eligible voters, not the total population, in determining how to draw political maps.

A court ruling in their favor would shift power to rural areas and away from urban districts with large immigrant populations.

Nevada Democrats said Friday that the ruling could have big consequences in Nevada, with its high number of immigrants without legal status.

The case is Evenwel v. Abbott.
