NLV police investigate child sex assault, kidnapping

Updated Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015 | 1:04 p.m.

A North Las Vegas man faces more than 20 felony counts in the abduction and sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl from Arizona and might have committed other assaults, according to North Las Vegas police.

Jimmy Carter Kim, 26, was arrested Thursday and faces a count of first-degree kidnapping and multiple counts of sexual assault of a minor, police spokesman Officer Steven Wiese said at a news conference Saturday.

Police received a call about 5:45 p.m. Thursday from a girl at a North Las Vegas convenience store who said she had escaped after being held captive.

Also according to Wiese:

Police learned that Kim had abducted the girl, who had been listed as a runaway, and brought her to Las Vegas against her will.

Police think Kim held the girl captive for about a month in his North Las Vegas home in the 1100 block of Dawn Valley Drive, near Camino Al Norte and West Washburn Road. The girl called police less than a half-mile from Kim's home, and police are investigating how she escaped.

Police were conducting surveillance on Kim when they pulled him over during a traffic stop about 10 p.m. Thursday. He was arrested later without incident.

Police also searched Kim’s home and “found numerous pieces of evidence,” including a firearm. Evidence leads police to think there might have been more victims.

“Sexual predators don’t normally have one victim, one crime,” Wiese said. “There are other things that maybe led up to this or he’s been involved in.”

The girl was hospitalized, then released to family members. No further information on her condition was available.

“We want either other victims or witnesses to come forward,” Wiese said. “That’s the whole point of this.”

The department is asking for victims or witnesses to call 702-633-9111 or Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
