Russian cruise missile goes astray, hits Russian village

MOSCOW — The Russian Defense Ministry says a cruise missile has gone astray after a test launch and has fallen near a village in northwestern Russia, hurting no one.

The ministry said in a statement carried by Russian news agencies that the missile inflicted no damage when it fell Tuesday near the town of Nyonoksa on the White Sea coast in the Arkhangelsk region.

However, the Tass news agency reported earlier that the missile hit a three-story building in Nyonoksa, causing a fire that damaged its roof and several apartments. It said there were no casualties.

The ministry didn't mention the missile type or offer any other details. It said experts were working to determine the reasons behind the failure.
