A 43-year-old Las Vegas man driving a pickup truck died this morning in a crash involving a dump truck on the 215 Beltway near Ann Road, shutting down a portion of the highway for four hours, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

The accident happened about 9:10 a.m. about a half-mile north of Ann Road, where the southbound pickup crossed the center line and hit the northbound dump truck head-on, Trooper Loy Hixson said.

The pickup spun before stopping, and the dump truck ended up on the right shoulder of the highway, according to NHP.

The pickup driver was pronounced dead at the scene; the 43-year-old North Las Vegas man driving the dump truck suffered minor injuries, Hixson said.

The highway was closed in both directions between Ann Road and Hualapai Way following the crash as crews cleaned up debris and fluid from the vehicles, he said.

All lanes were reopened by about 1:15 p.m., Hixson said.

Troopers are investigating why the pickup crossed into the northbound lanes, he said.

This is the 60th fatal collision this year investigated by NHP.
