Las Vegas-area schools get email threat similar to others

The Clark County School District has received a threatening email similar to one that shut down Los Angeles schools Tuesday before the FBI determined the threat wasn’t credible, according to a notification sent to parents this morning.

The email was discovered sometime after 9 a.m. today, and the district was working with law enforcement, the notification said.

School schedules were not expected to be affected today or Friday, the email said.

“The district has crisis response plans in place, and we are proud to have a dedicated police force who patrol our campuses and are trained to detect and respond to threats,” the district said.

Los Angeles public and charter schools were shut down Tuesday because of a similar email. The threat was also received in New York, where an email to the New York City schools superintendent promised an attack by more than 130 jihadists using pressure cooker bombs, nerve agents and machine guns.

The writer of the letter spelled the word “Allah” with a lowercase “a,” one of several clues indicating the threat was a hoax.

Similar threats were made in Miami and Houston, where they also were determined to be “less than credible,” according to CCSD.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
