Pedestrian, 70, struck in western valley last week dies

A 70-year-old pedestrian who was critically injured after being hit by a car early last week in the western valley has died, according to Metro Police.

Police were notified of the man’s death on Christmas Day.

The collision happened about 10:45 p.m. Dec. 21 at Charleston Boulevard and Brush Street, near Decatur Boulevard, police said.

The pedestrian, Kenneth Kleckner of Las Vegas, was crossing the road in a marked crosswalk at Charleston and Brush when a westbound Acura crashed into him.

Kleckner was transported with life-threatening injuries to University Medical Center, where he later died, police said.

A 20-year-old female driver of the Acura and an 18-year-old passenger did not sustain injuries from the collision, Metro Police said.

Metro spokesman Officer Michael Rodriguez said the accident was still under investigation and could not immediately provide information on whether the driver was arrested or facing charges.

This is the 124th traffic-related fatality in Metro's jurisdiction.
