An undercover Las Vegas police officer was arrested on a count of driving under the influence early Sunday morning, according to Metro Police.
Metro received a call about 4 a.m. of a driver asleep at the wheel near the intersection of Hualapai Way and Sahara Avenue, police said. A patrol officer responded to the scene and determined the driver was intoxicated, police said.
The driver was identified as Metro Police Detective Russell Backman, police said.
Backman is assigned to the Organized Crime Bureau and has been with Metro since March 2000.
Officer Larry Hadfield says Backman's age and booking photo weren't made public because he works undercover.
Backman was taken to the Clark County Detention Center.
Metro is also conducting an internal investigation into the incident.
