Jin William Ackerman speaks with his defense attorney Tom Pitaro during Ackerman’s 72-hour hearing at the Regional Justice Center, Las Vegas, Wed. Dec 31, 2014. Ackerman is accused of robbing a Las Vegas Walgreens and shooting and killing a store clerk.

A 25-year-old Las Vegas man accused of robbing two pharmacies and killing a clerk he once worked with won't be tried until at least next year, and won't be freed from jail in the meantime.

Clark County District Court Judge Jennifer Togliatti on Thursday denied defense attorney Tom Pitaro's bid for bail for Jin William Young Ackerman II.

The judge set a March 5 meeting to consider setting a trial date in 2016.

Prosecutor Michelle Fleck told the judge that the death penalty is being considered.

Ackerman is charged with robbing Walgreens stores at gunpoint Dec. 24 and Dec. 26, and shooting 58-year-old Antonino Isnit as many as 11 times in the second robbery.

Ackerman has pleaded not guilty to murder, kidnapping, armed robbery and burglary with a weapon charges.
