Fatal Accident
One person was killed and another injured late this morning in a crash involving an ambulance and a scooter, according to Metro Police.
The crash, involving a 2011 Ford E-350 MedicWest Ambulance unit, was reported just before noon at the intersection of Sahara Avenue and Boulder Highway/Fremont Street, authorities said.
The two people on the 2005 Jonway scooter were taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, Officer Laura Meltzer said. Metro later reported that the operator of the scooter, a 50 year old male, had died.
According to independent witnesses, traffic at the intersection was at a stop as the ambulance proceeded eastbound. The operator of the scooter traveled straight in the right turn lane and impacted the right side of the ambulance near the front wheel.
Nobody in the ambulance was hurt, Meltzer said.
The intersection was closed for about five hours while police investigated. As of 4:40 p.m., Boulder Highway was reopened.
